The Housing and Homelessness Coalition, an initiative of United Way of Marathon County, will be conducting a Point In Time Count during the overnight hours of January 25. Teams of volunteers will conduct a count of individuals experiencing homelessness. Data gathered helps to provide a snapshot of homelessness in Marathon County and is used to evaluate housing and homeless assistance. The count includes people who are unsheltered living on the streets and those staying in homeless shelters. During the January 2016 count, 105 people stayed in a homeless shelter and 10 were counted as unsheltered.
From 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. on January 26, local non-profit organizations will be hosting Project Connect at The Salvation Army Worship and Community Center, 103 S. Second Avenue, Wausau. The event includes a free lunch served from 12:00-1:00 and offers opportunities for individuals experiencing housing challenges to connect with local organizations that may be able to assist them. Anyone who is having trouble with rent, house payments or other challenges related to housing is encouraged to attend.
