|Bundles of Joy
Bundles of Joy, a United Way project, distributes diapers and infant formula via area organizations who serve struggling families in Marathon County.
The public face of the project is our volunteer-run Gift-Wrapping Station at the Wausau Center Mall. Hundreds of volunteers graciously donate their time wrapping gifts from Black Friday through Christmas Eve in exchange for in-kind donations to fund the Bundles of Joy project for the entire year. This annual fundraiser offers a fun and festive opportunity to volunteer for a local cause, knowing your efforts provide essential items for babies and toddlers right here in our local community. Online sign-up for this event begins in mid-October.
Why is Bundles of Joy important?
When a family is out of food, they go to a food pantry. But where do they turn when they run out of diapers or formula - two high-cost, high-need items? Bundles of Joy helps provide diapers and formula on an emergency basis to income-eligible families throughout Marathon County.
What has the Bundles of Joy project accomplished?
- During the 2014 holiday season, 460 volunteers logged 988 hours to wrap 5,539 packages over 27 days raising $6,623.86 for the project (including a special donation from Wisconsin Public Service). That came out to an average donation of $1.16 per gift wrapped.
- Total 2014 Funding for Bundles of Joy: $19,822.86 (including a "Dollars for Doers" grant from UnitedHealth Group, and a designated grant from the B.A. & Esther Greenheck Foundation).
- Since the project began in 2007, Bundles of Joy has received over $83,916 in donations over 8 holiday seasons. Approximately 14,545 4-ounce bottles of formula and over 10,509 packages of diapers have been purchased and distributed.
MANY THANKS are extended to our sponsors - Ministry Health Care, Peoples State Bank, and Wausau Center - for providing the gift-wrapping supplies and mall space. Special thanks also to UnitedHealth Group and the B.A. & Esther Greenheck Foundation for special grant funding to meet the growing needs of area families for diapers and formula through the Bundles of Joy project.
Also, please extend your THANKS when patronizing the following stores, who graciously donated boxes and supplies to assist with this project: Cellcom, Famous Footware, Justice, Kohl's, Maple Ridge Farms, & Younkers.
