Family Volunteer Day
Saturday, February 6, 2010
United Way Volunteer Connection realizes the importance of families volunteering together. For this reason Volunteer Connection sponsors Family Volunteer Day. Traditionally held the Saturday before Thanksgiving, this event will be held the first weekend of February next year.
At our last Family Volunteer Day, several projects were offered and completed at the Wausau Center Mall to benefit and strengthen our community:
- Tying polar fleece blankets for clients of The Child Advocacy Center of North Central Wisconsin.
- Decorating placemats and creating table decorations for local Community Thanksgiving Day Dinners.
- Making holiday cards and writing letters to send to an active-duty U.S. soldier.
Besides families, service groups and interested individuals were welcome to attend. Some completed one project, while others stayed the afternoon and participated in all projects. Families also had the option to slip into an available “Incredibles” costume for a unique family photo taken and printed on site!
Five Reasons to Volunteer with Your Family
- Children learn the values of kindness and compassion
- Families are strengthened by spending quality family time together
- Volunteering develops family pride and value
- Families gain a sense of accomplishment when they give back to others
- Society benefits from volunteering
