Each Make A Difference Day, United Way Volunteer Connection coordinates the largest raking project in the area, helping give elderly and disabled residents peace of mind and increasing their independence. Make A Difference Day 2017 was on October 28.
In 2017, 890 volunteers came together with rakes and trailers to clean up 130+ yards of elderly or disabled residents in the greater Wausau area. Volunteers included school groups (from elementary to college), Boy Scout Troops, Girl Scout Troops, corporate groups, families, churches, service organizations and more. Several bags of food and toiletries and many boxes of winter coats were also collected on Make A Difference Day. Collections included:
- Fill A Food Pantry – Non-perishable food items donated to the Marathon County Hunger Coalition.
- Toiletries Drive – Personal care items for men, women and children donated to Workplace Volunteer Council’s Back to Basics project.
- Coats for Kids – New or gently used outerwear for kids to adults collected by the Kiwanis.
