For Racers and Spectators, the Big Green Derby is the place to be June 8
United Way Emerging Leaders will hold its second annual Big Green Derby on Saturday, June 8, 2013 from 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. at Oak Island Park in Wausau. The Big Green Derby unites members of the community to celebrate our community assets, spur innovation, teamwork and creativity, and promote green living.
Our theme, Whatever Floats Your Boat, means just that - as long as it's made of reused or recycled materials, it qualifies. Teams will race their boat from the landing bay down to the sand bar at Fern Island. Building and racing a boat is a team effort, and there's room for everyone! Get a team together to represent your business, church or youth group, school club, family or friends. Teams can range from 2-6 people.
Teams will be awarded prizes for the Best in Race and the public will be voting on "People's Choice Award" and "Most Spectacular Sinking."
Sound interesting? Come down to the park for an afternoon filled with fun family activities, food and music and to cheer for your favorite boat! Proceeds from this event will fund the group's community projects throughout Marathon County. To date, Emerging Leaders have installed two Born Learning trails at local parks, nine Children's Spaces at area non-profits, and they operate the Career Closet. Members enrich their lives and the lives of others through educational, volunteer, social, and leadership opportunities throughout Marathon County.
