Project Step Up
Project Step Up is a community initiative sponsored by United Way and Women in Action.
What is Project Step Up?
Launched in January 2009, the purpose of Project Step Up is to promote self-sufficiency, strengthen families, and reduce isolation through mentoring and ongoing support. The program empowers participants, through working with project staff and volunteers, to set goals and link to other community resources.
All family participation is voluntary. Families must be willing to commit to a minimum of one year in the program, meet eligibility criteria, complete the screening process, schedule and follow through with appointments, and participate in educational programming. Families who apply but do not qualify will be respectfully assisted in locating needed resources.
Based on model programs from other communities and focus group feedback, Project Step Up was developed by the Financial Stability Coalition to Increase income and/or financial well being of families with minor children who are currently at or below 200% of federal poverty guidelines
by:
- Finding and maintaining employment
- Obtaining reliable transportation and housing
- Utilizing existing services to allow for stability
- Budgeting and money management
- Pursuing additional education
- Applying sound parenting skills
