WHAT: A day full of fun activities for families and individuals, including the United We Can food sculpture event, several dozen free children’s activities and the Big Trucks, Tractors and Trailers display.
Starting at 9 a.m., 15 United We Can food sculptures and numerous children’s activities will be available in the Expo Building. Children can make crafts, play games and be eligible to be in a drawing for some great prizes.
Attendees are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items or dollars, which can be used to purchase tickets to vote for their favorite creative and colorful United We Can food sculpture.
Food from all sculptures, as well as the food donations and dollars, will go to the Marathon County Hunger Coalition. Since 2010, this event has raised over 110,000 pounds of food and $14,000 in cash to support food pantries across Marathon County.
WHEN: CommUnity Fest events on Saturday, Sept. 22, run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. United We Can awards will be presented on Saturday afternoon at approximately 1:45 p.m., including the prestigious People’s Choice Award. United We Can set up begins Thursday, Sept. 20 in the late afternoon. Sculptures will also be constructed from noon until 4 p.m. Friday.
Community members can vote for their favorite United We Can sculpture from 9 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. by bringing non-perishable food items or dollars to trade for voting tickets at the United Way booth at the Expo Building center rotunda.
NEW THIS YEAR: 6 companies will be competing in the “On the Spot Challenge.” In this event, each company will receive an identical supply of canned and boxed food and will be challenged to build a sculpture with the items provided. They will not be given a list of supplies in advance and will need to use their creativity and ingenuity to build something “On The Spot.”
WHERE: Children’s activities and United We Can will be held at the Expo Building. Directly outside the building you will find the very popular Trucks, Trailers and Tractors area, available for kids — and those young at heart — to get up close and personal with trucks and equipment like antique tractors and road construction equipment, along with a police cruiser and semi. Nicklaus Farms/River Valley will be providing tractor & wagon rides around Marathon Park. Costumed mascots will wander around and food and beverages will be available for purchase.
WHY: Why is CommUnity Fest fun with a purpose? The annual event benefits the important work the Marathon County Hunger Coalition provides — ensuring families and individuals in Marathon County have healthy and nutritious food.
CommUnity Fest is a chance for families to have a great time together, an opportunity for companies to show off their ingenuity and generosity, with everyone participating in some fun that encourages community pride.
