October 27 is national Make A Difference Day 2018, the largest day of service in the United States.
Locally, United Way Volunteer Connection’s raking project is a huge volunteer effort to help elderly and disabled residents take care of fall yard clean up by raking leaves. Corporate groups, school groups, families and individuals are all welcome to participate. Those interested in raking should sign up by October 23, or go to First United Methodist Church between 8:00 and 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 27, for a yard assignment.
If you are unable to rake, but want to help? You can make a donation of non-perishable food for local pantries, toiletries to be distributed via the Workplace Volunteer Council’s Back to Basics project, and new or gently used winter outwear for children though adult sizes to be distributed by the Kiwanis. Bring all donations to First United Methodist Church between 8:30 a.m. and 11: 30 a.m. on Make A Difference Day.
