Marathon County Hunger Coalition, an initiative of United Way of Marathon County continues to support rural schools during this unsettling time. Last week the coalition delivered more than $6,000.00 worth of food to six rural school districts including Marathon, Edgar, Athens, Colby, Abbotsford, and Spencer.
According to Richard Parks, District Administrator for the School District of Marathon, “The “Fill a Backpack – Fill a Belly program” provides weekend meal opportunities for 200 families. The support of our local community and businesses together with the generosity of the Marathon County Hunger Coalition funds has made this possible. This is so needed and our families are grateful.”
This is a community effort supported in part by grants from Marshfield Clinic and the Ascension Foundation. Bulk orders have been placed through local grocery stores such as: Edgar IGA, Trigs and Merrill Distributing.
