Marathon County Hunger Coalition Moves Forward

United Way of Marathon County and the Marathon County Hunger Coalition Leadership Committee approved a significant investment in the Farm to Family Produce Program for the 2022 year.

This money is used to buy 75 bushels of fresh produce per week, which is then distributed to those in need. The intent of the program is to connect individuals and families with high-quality, locally grown produce while offering them education on the health benefits and information on use and storage.

The Marathon County Hunger Coalition partners with local farms to source fresh produce boxes, which are then distributed between 30 area agencies and programs to give out in Marathon County. In 2021 this program has purchased over $10,000 in fresh produce and next year the program is projected to double.

One of the farms committed to this program is Red Door Family Farm. They are a Certified Organic diversified farm in Athens, Wisconsin. They grow 10 acres of vegetables, fruits, and mushrooms for CSA, Farmers Markets, and local Restaurant sales.
