Adopt a Classroom
April 18 @ 8:00 am – May 3 @ 5:00 pm
Reading at grade level by third grade is a predictor of future success in school. Kids who are behind at that time are unlikely to catch up to their peers. Having books of their own is a great way to encourage children to read and practice their literacy skills. That is why United Way Ready to Read is offering workplaces the opportunity to Adopt a Classroom in D.C. Everest, Wausau, Athens, Edgar, and Marathon School Districts along with Newman and St. Mary’s Private Schools kindergarten classes this spring.
Your participation in Adopt a Classroom provides each child with a literacy kit featuring a Little Critter book on gardening and healthy eating along with all supplies for the Garden in a Glove project. The supplies will be provided and co-branded with your company logo and United Way of Marathon County’s logo. In early April, your team of volunteers will build the literacy and seed growing kits and prepare to present the book and Garden in a Glove project to the kindergarten classroom you’ve selected. The amount of time this takes will depend on the number of volunteers participating. Register by selecting a date and time that suits your team from the participating classrooms below. Dates range from April 18th through May 3rd and all times fall during the school day. The classroom portion on this project takes 30 minutes and we recommend at least three volunteers with no more than eight going into a given classroom. Your company is welcome to purchase more than one classroom.
Please note that material pick-up will be Thursday, March 31st, and Friday, April 1st between 8 am and 5 pm at United Way of Marathon County.
Thank you for supporting youth literacy and sharing the excitement of growing food from seed!
